Tel Mond, in short

Modern Orthodox English-speaking families who want one established shul with shiurim in English in a small town, and households where someone commutes to Tel Aviv by car and train.

The English-speaking community

Tel Mond is a town of 14,771 residents (CBS, end of 2024) in the Sharon region, east of Netanya and north of Kfar Saba, founded in 1929. Nefesh B'Nefesh calls it home to a vibrant and active Anglo community, without a number. Of the 262 olim who settled here from 2014 to 2023, 95 came from the US and 33 from the UK, about half of the total, against 20 from the former Soviet Union (Ministry of Aliyah).

The English-speaking life we could document centres on one congregation. Kehillat Mevaser Zion describes itself as a Modern Orthodox community with classes and shiurim in Hebrew and English and a central role in welcoming olim. Hebrew Wikipedia says it was founded from 2000 by about 25 young families, some of them olim from South Africa, England and the USA, and that it had about 170 member families in 2021, a count of all members, not of English speakers. The shul's own site does not call it English-speaking.

In June 2013 the congregation inaugurated its new synagogue, and that month it opened the Pietersburg Shul: the contents and a Sefer Torah of the synagogue in Pietersburg (Polokwane), South Africa, brought to Tel Mond. Its Va'ad Chesed arranges hospitality for a new family's first few Shabbatot. Nefesh B'Nefesh lists volunteer contacts for Tel Mond; the Ministry of Aliyah's list of aliyah coordinators has no Tel Mond row.

Where people live

  • Beit HaLord

Tel Mond was founded on 16 June 1929 by Alfred Mond, 1st Baron Melchett, whose company planted citrus orchards to provide employment for Jewish labourers. Beit HaLord (The Lord's House) serves as a documentary center and museum on that era, the Jerusalem Post wrote in May 2024; Hebrew Wikipedia calls it one of the town's first seven permanent houses.

  • Hadarim, Tziporim, Haregashot

Nefesh B'Nefesh names these three as the popular neighbourhoods among olim.

  • New neighbourhoods

Hebrew Wikipedia says new low-rise neighbourhoods were built on the town's edges, and that the local outline plan adds more, mainly in the west, alongside urban renewal.

  • Who lives here

Nefesh B'Nefesh describes an intimate suburb with both religious and secular residents. In the 2022 census the most common household described itself as secular.

Schools

  • Schools

The Ministry of Education lists 6 active schools in Tel Mond: 5 state and 1 state-religious. Hebrew Wikipedia names the state-religious elementary school as Ohr Torah, and a six-year school for grades 7 to 12 named after Yitzhak Rabin. Mevaser Zion's site calls Ohr Torah a leading institution in the Sharon region; we found no ministry ranking behind that.

  • English-language schools

We found no school or gan in Tel Mond that teaches in English or names English support. Nefesh B'Nefesh lists a volunteer who acts as liaison to the local Orthodox elementary school. Ask the council and the schools themselves.

  • Hebrew for adults

Nefesh B'Nefesh says residents can receive olim services such as ulpan in the neighbouring cities, Netanya and Ra'anana. We found no ulpan in Tel Mond itself.

  • No train in town

Tel Mond has no railway station of its own. The nearest is Beit Yehoshua, 5.4 km in a straight line from the town's centre point, whose fastest weekday train reaches Tel Aviv Savidor in 19 minutes (Ministry of Transport, 14 Oct 2026). The train figures on this page are Beit Yehoshua's, not the town's, and do not include the trip to the station.

  • Work

In the 2022 census 73.3% of Tel Mond's employed residents worked outside the town.

  • AACI and ESRA

We found no AACI or ESRA branch in Tel Mond and no council page for olim. Nefesh B'Nefesh points olim to Netanya and Ra'anana for services.

The downsides

  • Prices far above the national median

In the quarter ending Sep 2025, the latest with a Tel Mond figure, the median sold home went for ₪3,441,500, against ₪1,938,500 nationally, new and older homes together. nadlan.gov.il publishes no split by number of rooms for Tel Mond.

  • Low rental yield, thin rent data

nadlan.gov.il computes a gross rental yield of 3.0% for Tel Mond, before arnona, maintenance, vacancy and tax. Its rent figures rest on few deals: the all-homes median sits above every room band, so treat them as rough.

  • A drive to the train

The nearest station is Beit Yehoshua, 5.4 km away in a straight line, so every train trip starts with a drive or a bus. The timetable has no direct train from Beit Yehoshua to Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon (Ministry of Transport, 14 Oct 2026).

  • One documented congregation

Mevaser Zion is the only shul we found that offers shiurim in English, and its own site does not call it English-speaking. We found no non-Orthodox congregation and no count of English speakers; Hebrew Wikipedia's about 170 member families (2021) counts all members.

  • Few new-home schemes

The CBS counts 213 homes started in Tel Mond in 2023. The Dira BeHanacha lottery data has no Tel Mond rows, and the Israel Land Authority has no live tender here (fetched 14 Oct 2026).

Who should pick Tel Mond, and who should not

Pick it if you are

  • Modern Orthodox families who want a shul with shiurim in English and help settling in.
  • Families who want a town where religious and secular residents live side by side.
  • Households where one partner drives to Beit Yehoshua for the train to Tel Aviv.

Look elsewhere if you are

  • Buyers on a tight budget.
  • Investors buying for rental income.
  • Families who need English-language schooling.
  • Anyone who needs to walk to a train, or a direct train to Jerusalem.
