In Ramot Bet, Beit Knesset Mitzpe Ramot describes itself on its own site as "a warm, welcoming community in the leafy suburb of Ramot Bet" whose members include "a sizable number of both veteran and new English-speaking olim". The page, which carries no date, says around 40 young Anglo families have joined over the past few years and that the shul gives Torah classes in both English and Hebrew. It also mentions an active Bnei Akiva and Ezra in the neighbourhood.
No official source counts English speakers in Ramot, and the Ministry of Aliyah publishes olim figures for Jerusalem as a whole only. The most recent estimate we found is from March 2014, when Jewish Action, the OU's magazine, wrote that "NBN estimates the number of English speakers in Ramot at about 20 percent". The same article said that "only a small number of religious Anglo olim are moving to Ramot", most choosing newer, smaller, more affordable apartments a bit farther from Jerusalem. That is twelve years old, and Mitzpe Ramot's undated page points the other way.
Also in Ramot Bet, Ya'ar Ramot is a Masorti congregation that Nefesh B'Nefesh's Masorti list describes as home to upwards of 100 families; how many speak English is not stated. Lakewood East, officially a branch of the American Lakewood yeshiva, has been in Ramot since 2004, with a senior beit medrash and a kollel. The Sir Charles Clore library on Recanati Street has an English-language section the Jerusalem Foundation supplies with books.
Nefesh B'Nefesh's Jerusalem community guide does not list Ramot among the neighbourhoods popular with olim.

Where people live
Ramot as a whole
A suburb on two ridges in north-west Jerusalem. Wikipedia gives a population of 50,400 in 2020, 75% of them Haredi, and says Ramot was 70% secular when it was founded in 1974. Other sources, from 2014 to 2023, give other totals, from about 51,000 to 70,000.

The 1949 line
Wikipedia says Ramot is administered by Israel as part of the Jerusalem municipality and that part of it was built across the Green Line in East Jerusalem; its history section says most of the area was under Jordanian control between 1949 and 1967. The international community considers Ramot a settlement; Israel considers East Jerusalem its sovereign territory. Check any specific building against the line.

What is planned
An article of 1 May 2023 reported that the local planning committee had approved for deposit two plans for about 1,700 homes in buildings of up to 12 floors on Ramot's edge (Nadlan Center, citing Calcalist). In September 2023 a Ramot Polin urban renewal plan, about 1,340 homes in place of 320, was at the district committee. We have not checked either since. Hebrew Wikipedia lists projects completed since 2020, among them Ramot 360 above Ramot Mall.
