The English-speaking community

Kfar Saba is a city of 99,410 residents (CBS, end of 2024) in the Sharon region, with Ra'anana directly to its west. Nefesh B'Nefesh says olim can be found all over the city, and gives no figure for its English speakers; we found no count anywhere. Of the 2,241 olim who settled here from 2014 to 2023, 155 came from the US and 20 from the UK, against 1,235 from the former Soviet Union (Ministry of Aliyah). In the 2022 census 6.9% of residents were born in the Americas, North and South together.

The congregation with the clearest English offering is Hod VeHadar, which calls itself the only congregation in Kfar Saba belonging to the Masorti (Conservative) movement, and egalitarian. Its site runs in English and Hebrew, and its education page invites people to classes in English and Hebrew: a weekly Torah portion class in English on Friday mornings, on Zoom, listed by date through December on a page that also lists classes starting in October 2026. Its history page says it began in 1978 when two Conservative rabbis advertised in the Jerusalem Post for like-minded families, and that it now counts some 200 member families from Kfar Saba, Ra'anana, Hod HaSharon and around: a count of all members, not of English speakers.

We found no Orthodox shul in Kfar Saba that describes itself as English-speaking. Nefesh B'Nefesh lists a volunteer Anglo community contact, described as retired and Orthodox. ESRA, the English-speaking volunteer organisation, runs a secondhand shop at 45 Rothschild Boulevard and, per its June 2026 guide, an English book club circle for Kfar Saba and Hod Hasharon. The nearest AACI office is in Netanya. The municipality's absorption department runs a five-month beginners' ulpan (subject to numbers) and, Nefesh B'Nefesh says, gives new olim a 90% arnona discount for the first year on apartments up to 100 square metres.

The downsides

  • Prices above the national median

In the quarter ending Dec 2025 the median sold home in Kfar Saba went for ₪2,415,900, against ₪2,010,400 nationally, new and older homes together. A 4-room home's median over the last 12 months was ₪2,753,850, 6.8% lower than the year before. Ynet, on CBS figures for the last quarter of 2025, put Kfar Saba fifth on its list of the most expensive cities, at an average of about ₪2.89 million, with prices down about 2.8% on the year.

  • Low rental yield

nadlan.gov.il computes a gross rental yield of 3.3% for Kfar Saba, before arnona, maintenance, vacancy and tax.

  • No English-speaking Orthodox shul

The English teaching we could document is Masorti, and its weekly class is on Zoom. We found no Orthodox congregation that offers English, no count of English speakers, and no current source that sizes the community.

  • A Hebrew-speaking city

Most of the decade's olim came from the former Soviet Union (1,235 of 2,241); the US and UK together sent 175. The Ministry of Aliyah's coordinator list has no Kfar Saba row, and Nefesh B'Nefesh's answer for an Anglo coordinator is the general municipal absorption coordinator.

  • No direct train to Jerusalem

The timetable has no direct train from Kfar Saba to Jerusalem Yitzhak Navon (Ministry of Transport, 14 Oct 2026).

Who should pick Kfar Saba, and who should not

Pick it if you are

  • Masorti and egalitarian families who want classes in English.
  • Olim who will use the municipality's first-year help: ulpan, arnona discount, school enrichment.
  • Households with a commuter to Tel Aviv by train.

Look elsewhere if you are

  • Families who want an English-speaking Orthodox shul.
  • Families who need English-language schooling.
  • Investors buying for rental income.
  • Anyone who needs a direct train to Jerusalem.
