The English-speaking community

Hadera had 107,974 residents at the end of 2024 (CBS). We found no count of its English speakers. Of the 4,635 olim who settled here from 2014 to 2023, 101 came from the US and 15 from the UK, against 3,220 from the former Soviet Union and 962 from France (Ministry of Aliyah). In the 2022 census 2% of residents were born in the Americas, North and South together.

Chabad English Hadera was started by Rabbi Dovid and Myriam Braslawsce, who moved to the city in March 2025 and work under the guidance of Chabad of Hadera. In September 2025 the rabbi told the Jerusalem Post they were looking for a place to start an English-speaking minyan. In January 2026 Chabad's own news site described weekly Torah classes at a local café, an evening shiur in their apartment, a women's Rosh Chodesh group, monthly farbrengens, children's programmes, and Shabbat and holiday services, with a daycare "in the works". We found no address, website or published schedule. Nefesh B'Nefesh lists the couple as a Hadera contact, and the group's fundraising page took donations in late September 2026.

Beyond the Chabad we found no English-speaking shul, Orthodox, Masorti or Reform. The same Chabad report says many Anglo newcomers settle in Givat Olga, and quotes a resident: "Now we have a whole WhatsApp group." Nefesh B'Nefesh's guide page for Hadera is empty, but its contact list has four Hadera entries: the Chabad couple and one volunteer each in Beit Eliezer, Givat Olga and the centre. A Nefesh B'Nefesh blogger writes that American immigrants count Hadera among the "Five Towns" with Pardes Chana-Karkur, Zichron Yaakov, Caesarea and Binyamina. The nearest AACI office is in Netanya.

The downsides

  • No established English-speaking shul

The only English-language religious framework we found is the Chabad started in 2025, which had no fixed minyan in September 2025 and has published no address or schedule since. We found no other English-speaking congregation, Orthodox, Masorti or Reform.

  • Few olim from English-speaking countries

Of 4,635 olim from 2014 to 2023, 116 came from the US and UK together, against 3,220 from the former Soviet Union and 962 from France. The ministry's figures do not count Canada, South Africa or Australia separately.

  • A thin, recent record

Almost everything we found on English-speaking life in Hadera dates from 2025 and 2026 and centres on one Chabad couple: Chabad's news site, a Jerusalem Post profile, Nefesh B'Nefesh's contact list and the group's fundraising page. The growth Chabad's report describes ("fast-growing") comes with no number, and we found no count from anyone else.

  • Little English help from officials

The Ministry of Aliyah lists one coordinator for Hadera itself, speaking Russian; English-speaking coordinators at its Hadera office are listed for Harish, Zichron Yaakov and Or Akiva. Nefesh B'Nefesh's guide page for Hadera has no content.

  • No train to Jerusalem

There is no direct train from either Hadera station to Jerusalem (Ministry of Transport, 14 Oct 2026).

Who should pick Hadera, and who should not

Pick it if you are

  • Families who want to be early in a new English-speaking Chabad circle and are happy to live in Hebrew.
  • Buyers who want the coast and a direct train to Tel Aviv, in or near Givat Olga.
  • Buyers looking for a coastal city where the latest quarterly median sale was below the national figure.

Look elsewhere if you are

  • Families who want an established English-speaking shul or a large Anglo community.
  • Families who need English-language schooling.
  • Anyone commuting daily to Jerusalem by train.
